Los Angeles – In an interesting series of development in the hearing of “Suge” Knight, the Former rap mogul collapsed in downtown Los Angeles courtroom. The co-founder of Death Row Records was sentenced to a $25 million bail, after being sentenced guilty in a murder trial. The rapper was accused of deliberately running over and killing two people at a Southern California burger stand. The hearing had begun on 8.30am.
Knight was then taken to a jail hospital for further treatment and evaluation, said Nicole Nishida, a spokeswoman of Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. While Deputy Dist. Atty. Cynthia J. Barnes believed that Knight “did it in front of the cameras”, there has been reports that his left shoulder had been twitching and that he had been tensed up during the entire time in the courtroom.
While Knight’s attorney Matthew Fletcher believes the $25 million bail is “ridiculous”, Barnes believes that the amount wasn’t high enough. The Deputy District Attorney sincerely believed that Knight was “basically above law” till now. The 300 page long arguments and supporting evidence, which includes extortion, assaults, witness intimidation and robberies backs up her claim. For the murder charge alone, Knight could be potentially sentenced to a 75 year of life in state prison. Some of his crimes date back to 1987 as well.
Fletcher said that officials have scheduled the preliminary hearing to be continued on April 13.
The Courtroom collapse of Friday was merely one of several health issues faced by Knight during the legal proceedings of this case. Earlier this month, it was reported that Knight had turned partially blind in one eye and completely in the other. Knight had also mentioned to the judge that he had been shot six times during last year and even has a blood clot in his lungs and other complications as well. He had also complained of receiving “inadequate” medical treatment while in custody.
