Doctor playing golf said to respond and save Harrison Ford after plane crash

Dr. Sanjay Khurana was playing golf after a morning surgery when the accident involving Hollywood movie star, Harrison Ford occurred. Those who were at the scene of the accident, including Khurana, helped Ford out of the plane wreckage. Khurana didn’t recognize the movie star until after they had placed him on the ground away from the wreckage.

Khurana was almost finishing his golf game when he saw Ford’s plane hurling down like a stone, causing something like an earthquake. After the plane crash-landed, Khurana and those at the scene moved quickly to rescue the trapped pilot, whose face was covered in blood and could hardly be recognized at a first glance.

Avoiding fire

The golfers released Ford’s seatbelt and lifted him up from the plane while taking care to avoid a fire from the leaking fuel. Khurana said that he asked some of the golfers at the scene with him to kick dirt and cover the leaking fuel to avoid igniting a flame.

Ford’s plane, also known as PT-22 Recruit, crash-landed just about 50 feet from Khurana.

Lost engine power

The vintage airplane lost engine power shortly after takeoff from Santa Monica Airport near Los Angeles. Ford contacted the airport to report the loss of engine power in his plane and said he was returning to the airport’s Runway 3. However, he managed to skillfully guide the crippled vintage airplane into Venice’s Penmar Golf Course. Aviation experts have cited that Ford’s maneuvers were absolutely beautifully given that he was able to avoid houses in a densely populated region.

Ford was admitted to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center soon after the crash. In a tweet from the hospital, Ford’s son called Ben said his father was okay and incredibly strong even after the accident. Ford’s publicist also said that the injuries sustained by the Hollywood star were not life threatening.

The Penmar golf course air crash becomes the second to involve Ford. He survived a helicopter crash in 1999 in Ventura Country. Ford is a licensed pilot since 1990s.
