HTC is back in the game with the announcement of the HTC One M9. The device is the successor to the HTC One M8, but many Android users might not realize this if they should ever see both handsets side-by-side.
No doubt, HTC did an excellent job with the One M8, so we all expected the company do come out with all guns blazing with the One M9, and that it did. However, the design is the same, so it looks exactly as the One M8, just with slight differences. However, that shouldn’t be a problem because the design is top notch, and that’s a huge plus.
On the matter of the display on both devices, they are the same. A 5-inch screen with full 1080p HD resolution made for watching videos and viewing images at the best quality.
While the One M8 has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 quadcore 2.3GHz processor, the One M9 is rocking a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 octacore at 2.0GHz. HTC bumped up the RAM in the newer handset to 3GB, up from 2GB, along with the internal memory that goes up to 32GB up from 16GB.
At the moment, we are not sure if HTC plans on releasing versions with higher internal memory, because that would be a boon for those who have a lot of data to store.
In terms of the camera in both devices, the HTC One M9 drops the Ultrapixel camera at the back for a decent 20-megapixel camera. The company did not completely do away with the Ultrapixel technology, as it was brought to the front-facing camera.
Several reports so far have claimed that the 20-megapixel camera on the device is a letdown, but at least it far surpasses the 4-megapixel Ultrapixel camera on the HTC One M8.
The way things are looking, the HTC One M9 appears to be a steep upgrade for most One M8 users because nothing much has changed. We expect them to make the switch over to the Galaxy S6.
