Samsung Tizen OS has been around from some time now, and they recently released their first ever Tizen smartphone, the Samsung Z1 in India last month. Samsung has released a statement that they have sold over 100,000 Z1 smartphones during their first month in India, and it also entered Bangladesh after few weeks, where so far 20,000 units are sold.
Samsung Z1 is available for only Rs. 5700 ($90) in India. Samsung is further planning to release the smartphone in markets like Indonesia, Sri Lanka, and Nepal. What Samsung is doing with their Tizen smartphone is that they are trying to get their hands on developing mobile phone markets, hence this might be the reason we may not see the Tizen OS making its way to US and UK mobile markets.
Samsung seems happy with the sale of Z1 so far, and as Samsung spends a lot of money on advertising, it seems like Tizen OS is here to stay. A question remains that will Samsung ever abandon Android for Tizen? This might never happen. What I believe Samsung is doing that they are making a divide; high-end smartphones running on Android while the low-end phones for developing markets will feature the Tizen OS. As Samsung phones were once powered by Symbian OS which is almost dead now, Tizen OS might become the new king of the low-end smartphones.
