Pinterest is getting better with the latest update but only for iOS users. The new feature allows iPhone and iPad users to download apps via the visual social network. We have to wonder if such an option will one day be available for Android and Windows Phone fans.
“Let’s say you’re pinning workout inspiration to your Marathon Training board,” Product Manager Julie Black wrote in a blog post. “If you see a fitness app that helps you reach your goals, you can download it right from Pinterest.”
We like this idea, and we expect it to benefit both Pinterest and Apple, one more than the other.
The best thing about this feature is that iOS users won’t have to ever leave the experience of Pinterest to get the app. Just tap on the blue install button, and the app will be downloaded directly to the user’s device. This is a cool way to do it, and we are surprised Apple didn’t allow iOS users to visit the Apple Store through Pinterest instead.
The announcement also made it clear that employees will choose their favorite apps, and they will show up in the Staff Picks section of the website.
We would love to see how far he partnership between Apple and Pinterest can go because so far it benefits iOS users a great deal. However, we believe a social network should not have special features that cater to only a single demography, hence why Android and Windows users should also being brought into the fold.
The company should strike a deal with Google and Microsoft to bring forth a similar feature. Even if the install links lead to the respective stores, it would still be good enough nonetheless.
Bear in mind this feature only works through the Pinterest app, and not via the web.
