Do it yourself microcomputers got a huge boost after the launch of the first Raspberry Pi, now its Cambridge-based creators have launched the successor in the form of the Raspberry Pi 2, and as expected, fans are wondering if it is worth their time.
The big question right now is how much of an improvement is the Raspberry Pi 2 compared to the previous model, especially the likes of the Raspberry Pi Model B+.
We take a look at the specifications of both to determine if fans should even bother digging into their pocket to get the new model. Before we go any further, we can safely say that fans will enjoy the new model though it is not entirely new in certain places.
The original microcomputer came with a 700MHz single core processor and 512MB of RAM. Despite the slow processor performance, the Raspberry Pi was still considered a wonderful device, so imagine what fans will think when they find out how powerful the latest version is.

The new Raspberry Pi 2 packs a punch with a quality 900MHz quad core processor. In addition, the creators doubled the RAM to 1GB, so users will be able to do so much more. However, we should point out that both devices use the same Videocore IV GPU.
The first Raspberry Pi did not come with fixed storage, and the same can be said about the latest model. Users who want storage will have to get their own by purchasing an SD card. These days SD cards are cheaper than a pack of biscuits, so it shouldn’t be too difficult for potential users of the Raspberry Pi 2.
There’s nothing much different here between the two microcomputers. The Raspberry Pi comes with 4 USB slots, single HDMI port, 3.5mm headphone jack, and an Ethernet slot. From all indication, this set up is very much similar to the original.

When it comes down to the software aspect of things, the Raspberry Pi 2 is very identical to the original, with only one major difference. Each supports the core Raspbian operating system along with a variety of Debian Linux operating systems. However, the Raspberry Pi 2 supports Windows 10, and that’s the major difference.
We understand the creators have been working closely with Microsoft to get Windows 10 running on the microcomputer for the last six months; it would appear their hard work has paid off tremendously.
Similar to the original, the Raspberry Pi 2 will only cost consumers $32 to own. We have to say that this is surprising considering the new model is far more powerful when compared to the old
