Fitness model and actor Greg Plitt fatally struck by train while shooting workout video on rail tracks

37 year old Greg Plitt, a fitness model and actor, who had appeared on more than 200 magazine covers and a variety of television shows, was killed after being struck by a southbound Metrolink train in Southern California on Saturday afternoon. The accident occurred when George Plitt Jr. and two other men were filming on the tracks north of Burbank, say the Burbank Police Sgt. Scott Meadows.

The witnesses to the horrific accident say that the train’s horn was blaring before Plitt was struck. The Burbank police Sgt. Chris Canales, however, says that the investigators working on the case have ruled out a suicide.

A train passenger told ABC7 that Plitt, who has shot workout videos on train tracks on earlier occasions as well, was holding a camcorder at the time of being hit. The incident is still under investigation.

Reality TV fans might be able to recall Plitt, best known for appearing on Bravo’s reality show Work Out. His episode on Bravo’s new series Friends to Lovers is a few weeks away.

Plitt “was as nice as he was beautiful,” tweeted Andy Cohen. “We couldn’t take our eyes off Greg Plitt after we cast him on “Work Out”… (he) seemed invincible, like Superman,” wrote the Bravo host.

According to Sgt. Chris Canales of the Burbank police, Plitt died at approximately 4:05pm local time. “For some reason he was on the track, and he was struck by the train,” said Canales.

Bravo released this statement about the news: “This is a very sad tragedy. Our thoughts and deepest sympathy are with Greg’s family and friends.”

Plitt was a native of Lutherville. He attended Gilman School, where he wrestled and played football and golf. He went on to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in 2000 and served as an Army Ranger for five years. It was only during the last two years of his service that he was discovered as a potential model. Before he became a recognizable face on television, he had appeared on the cover of Muscle and Fitness magazine.
