Xiaomi dreams big; Aims to be largest smartphone vendor in a decade

The company had a stupendous growth and has reached the No 3 slot in global market share already. But Xiaomi  doesn’t want to rest on its laurels, and is aiming at the No.1 spot in a decade.

It may seem too ambitious, but looking at its growth strategy would reveal that the company means business.

It was at the World Internet Conference in Wuzhen, China that Jun Lei revealed the company’s vision of being the largest smartphone vendor in the globe in sales.

For that to be achieved, it will have to surpass Apple and Samsung. Going by what Lei said, no one would have expected Xiaomi to be on third spot three years ago.

Speaking at the “Creating an Online Global Village Together” panel, Lei explained his visions in a three-minute speech, and spelt out the significance of its overseas market.

In China, Xiaomi has outdone the rest in the second quarter of 2014 with a 14% share of the market. He felt the significance to be laid equally in the overseas markets like India, which is becoming their largest overseas market, to walk through the path of displacing the smartphone vendors ahead of them.

Apple, their near rival who is in the second spot, has preferred not to stay silent, saying that Xiaomi’s vision is tough to achieve. Apple Senior Vice President of Legal and Government Affairs Bruce Sewell was the one who responded to Lei’s visions in the conference by deeming it to be a hard journey.

Xiaomi, the company founded in 2010, is pushing hard for its expansion on a global note which includes the server establishment outside of its homeland for its global users.

But a compelling rival is taking its birth within its homeland. Lenovo, who owns Motorola, is now springing in to the market with products that are in line with those from Xiaomi.
