Popular entertainer and comedian Joan Rivers, best known for her one-liners, died on September 4, 2014 in New York City. She was 81.
Melissa Rivers, the daughter of the entertainer, released a statement expressing her grief. “It is with great sadness that I announce the death of my mother, Joan Rivers. She passed peacefully at 1.17pm surrounded by family and close friends,” the statement said.
A funeral for the late Joan Rivers is planned for Sunday, Sept. 7 at Temple Emanu-El in New York
Rivers was admitted to Mount Sinai hospital in New York after she suffered a cardiac arrest while going through a throat procedure on August 28, 2014. She was later moved to a private room, but remained unconscious.
Starting off her career with The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson, Rivers has spent 50 years in showbiz and is known for her scathing wit that never spared anyone.
Often known to be a workaholic, she has worked at all ages with the same charm and wit. She was already having a show called “In Bed with Joan” and also had completed a special show episode for E!’s Fashion Police, before she was admitted.
Rivers has also been known for her surgical procedures, which she has never attempted to hide at any point. . “I’ve had so much plastic surgery, when I die they’ll donate my body to Tupperware,” she was quoted.
Melissa Rivers traveled to New York after hearing of her mother’s health. The statement further said, “Cooper and I have found ourselves humbled by the outpouring of love, support and prayers we have received from around the world. They have been heard and appreciated.”
