‘Mary Kom’ Movie Review and Box Office Collection Report

Much awaited Bollywood movie biopic “Mary Kom” will release across theatres in Indian and world on September 5, 2014.

Starring Priyanka Chopra in the titular role of Olympic bronze winner Mangte C. Mary Kom, the movie talks of the boxer’s early life and how she moves ahead to win the multiple medals.

Directly by Omung Kumar, “Mary Kom” has been produced by Viacom 18 Motion Pictures and Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

Priyanka Chopra as “Maru Kom” remains one of the main highlights of the movie, while there are actors like Sunil Thapa and Darshan Kumar, who play the role of Mary’s coach and husband respectively.

Despite being a women-oriented and sports film, “Mary Kom” created the buzz right after the first posters were out, while the trailer was all about the acting prowess of Priyanka Chopra.

The screen count of “Mary Kom” is close to 1500, which is decent given that it has no competition for being the solo Bollywood release of the week. Also, last week’s release “Raja Natwarlal” is not going strong at the box office.

“Mary Kom” is expected to do better in the multiplexes and should have decent opening given that it is releasing on Teacher’s Day.

The first day collections of “Mary Kom” should be around Rs. 6-8 crores. Since it’s a content oriented movie, it has to rely on word of mouth to fare well. The ticket prices should also pull in crowds as the movie has been declared tax-free in Assam, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh.

Keep an eye for box office collections of “Mary Kom”.
