The movie tells the story of ‘Shivani Shivaji Roy’, a female cop who takes on human trafficking mafia for finding a young girl she knows.
“Mardaani” holds extreme importance to Rani Mukerji, who happens to return to screen after a hiatus of two years. This also happens to be her first flick after her marriage to Yash Raj honcho Aditya Chopra.
The screen count of “Mardaani” is expected to be on lower side, but should get close to 2000 or more, given that Yash Raj is distributing the movie.
However, this Rani Mukerji starrer will have to heavily rely on the content, reviews and praise of mouth to score substantially at the box office.
With “Raja Natwarlal” awaiting release and “Singham Returns” still going strong at the box office, “Mardaani” needs to fetch good words to get going.
The makers have already made their note of targeting a special section of the audience, so the film is expected to do better in the multiplexes than on single screens.
The 1st day box office collections of “Mardaani” should be around Rs. 8 crores or above.
If the content and quality of the movie is up to the mark, the movie can pick up over the weekend. Can Rani pull off something like Vidya Balan did in “Kahaani”? Watch this space for more box office details!
