The Hindi movie “Entertainment” starring Akshay Kumar, Tamannaah Bhatia, Johny Lever and others that was released in 2800 screens in India and 400 abroad on Aug 8, 2014, got off to a good start at the box-office on day 1.
Evergreen star Akshay Kumar is well knows for his films to do well at the box-office, most of his movies have opened to a two digit number. His recent hit “Holiday” did excellent business at the box-office.
The movie made on a budget of Rs 80 crore, is said to have collected around Rs 11-13 crores on its first day in India. The 2nd day collections is expected to be even better The overseas reports are yet to come.
According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh’ tweet yesterday, the movie did well in the Gulf countries.
He tweeted, #Entertainment opened in UAE-GCC on Thursday and has collected approx AED 475,000 [Rs 79.37 lacs] on its opening day. Good!”
Since superstar Salman Khan’s latest blockbuster, Sajid Nadiadwala directed “Kick” gross 200 plus crore at the box-office and now it is in its third week, the occupancy of “Entertainment” is expected to increase during the weekend.
The movie got mixed reviews from analysts and leading newspapers since the story involves around dog.
Analyst Taran Adarsh gave a rating of 3 and half stars out of 5. While Gayatri Sankar of Zee News gave the film 4 stars. Film critic Kamal R Khan gave a rating of just one star!
The FirstPost wrote a negative review of movie, “Starring Akshay Kumar and Junior, the “wonder dog” whose wonders are limited to walking, sitting, barking and pressing a switch, Entertainment is the story of a canine Paris Hilton.
“It says a lot about how starved for real entertainment this country is when Entertainment, with its stale jokes and stupidity, gets a laugh.”
The Hindustan Times wrote, “Watching Akshay Kumar’s new film Entertainment put me in flashback mode. I went back to 1985. KC Bokadia’s Teri Meherbaniyan,
“The film is set up as a sitcom with random gags tacked onto a sliver thin story about a dog named Entertainment who inherits fortune worth Rs. 3,000 crore.
“The jokes are purposefully mindless, but they come at you at such a furious pace that you are lulled into an exhausted laughter.
“However, post interval, Entertainment falls to another level of awful. At one point, a dog latches onto Sonu Sood’s crotch. It’s so unfunny that I got depressed.”
