A new video clip apparently depicting the Sapphire screen of the iPhone 6 suggests a full scratch and stab-proof panel that could render plastic screen protectors 100% redundant.

There’s nothing quite like the feeling of taking home a brand-new $800 Smartphone and discovering 48-hours later that you’ve scratched the living hell out of the screen. For whatever the reason, it looks as if a dozen spiders have been ice-skating all over the thing and shy of paying hundreds of dollars for a replacement, it’s pretty much TS.
So, how about a screen that’s not only scratch-proof, but also tough enough to withstand a rather frenzied attack with a knife?
It sounds a bit far-fetched, but that’s exactly what’s been touted in a new video apparently showing off the Sapphire screen of the iPhone 6. Talk of such a panel is anything but new, but this is the first time we’ve seen what could be the real deal being put through its paces with some serious punishment. And while most leaks of this nature are clearly bogus, it’s hard to work out how the leakster in the clip could have fabricated such a demo.
Long story short, Marques Brownlee claims to have gotten hold of the iPhone 6 part from Sonny Dickson and summarily showed the world what it can do. He scrapes at the screen with keys and even has a go at it with a knife – neither produces so much as a minimal hairline scratch or scuff.
It came to light some time ago that Apple had pumped a quite nauseatingly large sum of cash into the R&D of Sapphire glass screens for its upcoming iPhones and iPads – the video below could be the fruit of the investment.
