The annual cars.com list of most-American vehicles has one again shrunk to just 10 qualifying vehicles – Ford’s F-150 pickup romped home with the gold.
It’s official – the Ford F-150 has taken the title of most American car in Cars.com’s annual rankings. Based wholly on the vehicles parts and assembly in order to determine how much of it is truly domestic, the iconic Ford pickup soared to a decisive victory over its nine rival entries.
This year saw just ten vehicles make it to the list, which requires a domestic parts and labor makeup of at least 75%. Last year, the list included 14 vehicles.
Interestingly, the Toyota Camry managed to take second-place for the 2014 rankings, despite the fact that it comes from a Japanese automaker. The reason being that most of the parts that go into the Camry are produced in the US and the car itself is also assembled in America.
Having shrunk from 14 cars to just 10 cars this year, the future of the American-made annual listing remains uncertain.
“This consistent decline points to global nature of cars these days,” said editor-in-chief of Cars.com Patrick Olsen.
“Production in the U.S. is up, but parts are coming from all over the world, making the notion of classifying cars as ‘American’ more difficult than ever.”
