It’s perfectly possible to boost the battery life of any iPhone without the need for new software or a hardware upgrades – a few simple DIY tweaks are all that’s needed!
With each new iPhone and every iOS update comes the very same complaint from thousands of disgruntled users – diminished battery life.
There hasn’t been an iPhone or iOS rollout to date that hasn’t seen forums all over the world explode with criticism from those finding that the latest and greatest goodies seem for one reason or another to be killing their batteries in a hurry. Sometimes we hear from Apple and bug fixes are given out, other times it’s a case of having to grin and bear it for the minorities affected.
However, not matter how perfect or painful your current battery life seems to be, there are always ways and means by which it can be improved. You might thing it comes down to massive software updates and even device upgrades to get the most out of your juice, but you’d be surprised just how far a few minor tweaks here and there can go.
So if you’re interested in staying powered-up for at least a little longer, give the following a try before venting your anger on the world:
App Push Notifications
You know those little notifications that pop up and annoy you from all manner of apps? Well here’s a shocker – they’re also killing your battery! Chances are you’ll already be fed up of seeing “Don’t Forget to Play X Today for 99 Free Coins!” and the like, so why not do yourself two favors for the price of one and kill them? It’s as easy as going into the Settings menu and making adjustments in the Notification Center.
Automatic Downloads
Another background nasty that can kill your battery, automatic downloads are convenient enough, but they don’t take what you’re doing at the time into account. If your battery is running low and your iPhone decides to start updating a bunch of apps, it’s bye-bye. As such, it’s a better idea to turn auto downloads off entirely, or switch cellular data off when you’re heading toward your last bar.
Lower Brightness
It’s the single biggest battery life killer of all for any iOS device – set your screen as bright as it gets and you’ll be heading for a cell in no time. Of course you’ll need to set the screen pretty bright from time to time, but try and get into the habit of being a bit more frugal with it whenever you can get away with a slightly darker screen.
Vibrating Alerts
Speaking of bad habits, another to avoid is that of having vibrating alerts switched on all the time. Sure they’re convenient and you probably take them for granted, but they also eat into your battery life in a big way and chances are you don’t really need them most of the time.
Adjust Auto-Lock
When your iPhone automatically locks itself, it goes into ultra-power-saving mode and conserves your precious juice. So regardless of how annoying it might get from time to time, try reducing Auto Lock time as much as possible to ensure things are switched off quicker.
Animations
And finally, those pretty animations – as in dynamic wallpapers and the delightful parallax effect – may look rather fetching, but both will do little other than cripple your device’s battery life. And give the fact that killing both won’t make a blind bit of difference to the overall user-experience on the whole, you might as well do exactly that!
